    that when your voice of intuition grips you and affirms what your eyes see is true but some Authoritative Voice In Media or Extremely Serious Foreign Policy Expert tells you otherwise, you will not fold and accept their lies views without some thorough fact-checking and bullshit scooping.

    Wonderful Digby leads us to David Rees at Huffington Post. It’s just too chock full of snarky goodness to quote snippets of .. ya gotta read the whole broadside to appreciate it.

    Trust yourself. They are incompetent. They are liars. They did get it all wrong.

    So, as Atrios likes to muse, why are they still on our teevees?

    If you’re a U.S. citizen then you have obligations.

    You need to keep yourself well-informed. You need to know what your government is doing in your name, with your tax dollars.

    You need to review the civics courses you took in school. You need to review the Constitution.

    You need to make time for well-produced public affairs programs like this past Friday’s episode of Bill Moyers Journal.

    Inside looking out

    I’m finally starting to feel older. In my bones. Muscles quicker to sag and sore. But that don’t bug me much.

    It’s the mental weariness. The soul suck. Hearing and reading and thinking of things from days past. A quick smile of recognition or maybe a wry grimace. Or both. Music that rings true yet faintly hollow at the same time. A yellowed college manifesto long forgotten but worth another half-glance. Cognitive dissonance that just cancels out and leaves a bland feeling of gray matter. All cooked and lukewarm and trying to mesh with present-day global reality that just slaps me upside the face. Repeatedly.

    I recommend checking in with Glenn Greenwald daily. We all need to better understand the flood of news and information we’re drowning in as well as who and what’s behind it:

    So within less than 24 hours, a completely shoddy, unreliable and vague ABC News report translates into a straightforward statement at the President’s Press Conference that “Iran will be capable of building a nuclear bomb within two years.”

    I think it’s time to go back and read 1984. We’ve been living it for almost seven years now.
