    Coming soon

I’ve been promising new songs for a good while now.

Get ready for a summer sunshower deluge.   My brother will be spooling up the reels on his newly acquired 24-track 2″ tape machine shortly and we’ll get all the sad stories, happy happenstance, groovy guitars and airy analog vibe we can stuff on there.

One compressed digital squeeze to deliver it to you here for your listening pleasure and maybe you’ll be so entranced you’ll send us some green so we can lovingly stamp it all onto some black vinyl for the whole experience.  Retro, my ass.  Do it right or don’t do it at all, Joe would say.

    Cheers

    Summer reading recommendation

It’s not going to be light beach fare but you can join me and many others in pre-ordering Glenn Greenwald’s new book with the info here.

    Inside looking out

I’m finally starting to feel older. In my bones. Muscles quicker to sag and sore. But that don’t bug me much.

It’s the mental weariness. The soul suck. Hearing and reading and thinking of things from days past. A quick smile of recognition or maybe a wry grimace. Or both. Music that rings true yet faintly hollow at the same time. A yellowed college manifesto long forgotten but worth another half-glance. Cognitive dissonance that just cancels out and leaves a bland feeling of gray matter. All cooked and lukewarm and trying to mesh with present-day global reality that just slaps me upside the face. Repeatedly.

    New Favorite Song

Click on over to The Pipettes site and skip the music player up top to “Pull Shapes”.  That’s some good stuff, folks.

Maybe if I ask nice they’ll let me borrow that cool record player.

    Weekend gigs

Friday at Twangfest in St. Louis with Dolly Varden. We’re on right before one of my longtime favorites, Graham Parker.

Sunday at Ribfest with Dolly Varden in Lincoln Square. 7pm. Steve reminds us all that ribs will likely be available at this event.

And an early warning that I’ll be playing downtown at 225 W. Washington from 11am-1pm on Wednesday, August 15th. I’ll try to get my jukebox pal Casey McDonough to join me for some lunchtime fun.
